THE CHALLENGE
A long-time client reached out to Emberex to build them an Amazon Alexa skill with a companion web app on a short timeline. We were asked to design and build a beautiful, quick, and easy-to-use interface for busy parents — one that helps them set up their Alexa, points them to informational podcasts, and integrates seamlessly with the Amazon Alexa skill.
Asset Utilization
It’s uncommon for Emberex to be provided brand guidelines and assets at the start of a project — but it’s an opportunity we welcome! We consider it a privilege to take such wonderful and well-considered brand elements and bring them to life in an app we design. It was a joy to work in collaboration with the client’s design team, and bring a joyous “bedtimey” feel to this application.

THE PROCESS
The process of taking this app from inception to full execution was quick, collaborative, and satisfying. With copy and assets in hand at the outset, the design team created rough wireframes for client review, and after a few back-and-forth ideation chats we agreed on a final user experience and interface design and then moved this project quickly to development.
Alexa Integration
Integrating the web app with the Alexa Skill provided its own set of challenges. Users needed to be able to switch from the web app to the skill with seamless effort. We were able to create a robust integration that synced accounts and updated data between the two in real-time.
The Results
In the end, users got an enjoyable, easy-to-use app that helps them get their kids to bed on time.
